info The Independence Monument (လွတ်လပ်ရေးကျောက်တိုင်) is located in the Maha Bandula Park facing the Yangon City Hall, and surrounded by two concentric circles of lion statues.
Sule Pagoda next to it is commonly recongnized as the center point of Yangon City. Installed on 4 January, 1948 to commorate the Burmese Independence, the grand opening ceremony was held in 1950 by the first President of the Union of Myanmar and it was renovated in 2012. The park is named after General Maha Bandula who fought against the British in the First Anglo-Burmese War (1824–1826).
