Ah Lain Nga Sint Temple & Maha Say Wingaba
info Ah Lain Nga Sint Temple or Maha Say Wingaba was Venerable Sayadaw’s (Monk) monastery where occultism was practised during his life time.
Most of the statues in that complex are related partly to Mahayana Buddhism and partly to occultism. It's construction began in 1954 with the first bricks being laid by Prime Minister U Nu and Mahn Win Maung, an ethnic Kayin politician who became the president of Burma in 1957. Ah Lain Nga Sint Temple is an exceptionally florid seven-layered structure symbolizing the seven levels of heaven and it is covered in a layer of gold. It is surrounded by a low-walled maze and an onion-domed tower with a staircase that twists around the outside. The Temple plays an important role in the Kayin community and annually hosts Yangon's biggest Kayin New Year Festival every December and January.
