The 18 Noble Arts

For thousands of years. all noblemen of Myanmar royal families are required to learn all 18 Essential Arts of Myanmar Noble Men.
It was known as "Ahtar Ratha 18 subjects" of arts. They are considered as compulsory.
These 18 subjects are:
1. Astrology
The study of the positions and aspects of celestial bodies in the belief that they have an influence on the course of natural earthly occurrences and human affairs.
2. Law
The study of rules of conduct or procedure established by custom. agreement. or authority.
3. Arithmetic
The study of mathematics of integers. rational numbers. real numbers. or complex numbers under addition. subtraction. multiplication. and division.
4. Yoga
The study of exercises practiced as part of this discipline to promote control of the body and mind.
5. Do's and Dont's
The study of a subject about the Do's and Dont's of Myanmar culture also known as "Lawka Niti".
6. Science
The study of the observation. identification. description. experimental investigation. and theoretical explanation of phenomena.
7. Music
The study of the art of arranging sounds in time so as to produce a continuous. unified. and evocative composition. as through melody. harmony. rhythm. and timbre.
8. Algebra
The study of a branch of mathematics in which symbols. usually letters of the alphabet. represent numbers or members of a specified set and are used to represent quantities and to express general relationships that hold for all members of the set.
9. Martial arts
The study of the art of several Asian arts of combat or self-defence.
10. History
The study of common knowledge. especially of a recent event that has lost its original impact or importance.
11. Astronomy
The study of the scientific study of matter in outer space. especially the positions. dimensions. distribution. motion. composition. energy. and evolution of celestial bodies and phenomena.
12. Poetry
The study of the art or work of a poet.
13. Physiology
The study of the biological study of the functions of living organisms and their parts.
14. Pretence
The study of the quality or state of being pretentious; ostentation.
15. Disciplines
The study of training expected to produce a specific character or pattern of behaviour. especially training that produces moral or mental improvement.
16. Literature
The study of the art or occupation of a literary writer.
17. Grammar
The study of how words and their component parts combine to form sentences.
18. Mantra
The study of sacred verbal formula repeated in prayer. meditation. or incantation. such as an invocation of a god. a magic spell. or a syllable or portion of scripture containing mystical potentialities.
