Myanmar or Burma ?

"Myanmar" was formerly known as "Burma" until it was changed by the ruling military government after the uprising in 1989.
Why Did The Country's Name Change from Burma to Myanmar?
- Ever since Myanmar got independence back in 1998, officially in the constitution the country was called Myanmar, in the official local language, although it is officially used as Burma in all official government communications and media.
- It was thought to be changed due to the name "Burma" only representing the largest ethnic group, Burmans only and also to rid the country of British colonial influences. Along with it, "Rangoon" was also changed to "Yangon" and the names of more cities were also changed in order for them to sound much closer to the original pronunciation in Burmese Language. Many countries have switched to calling the country "Myanmar" instead of "Burma" except for the United States and the United Kingdom. Aung San Suu Kyi has also stated that she personally prefers using the name "Burma" more but also said that both of the names are acceptable.
- There also is a list of discussion about the name of the country, and ethnicity မြန်မာ or ဗမာ, in Burmese language. It's worth checking out. For more info, please see: https://shwe.net/list/people/myanmar-or-bamar.html
