Distant view of Thatbyinnyu Pagoda
There is a maze-like structure internal to this monument. One can go from inner passages to the top terrace. Then from the main eastern entrance ascended stairways lead to another part of the pagoda. There are steep stairways to climb up and down inside the building. But the top part are prohibited to climb.
In a monastery compound slightly to the south-west of the Thatbyinnyu you can see the stone supports which once held the temple's huge bronze bell. North-east of the temple stands a small 'tally zedi', which was built of one brick for every 10,000 bricks used in the main temple.
