info This large image of the Buddha is known as the Thandawgya (သံတော်ကျဘုရား), “Within Hearing of the Royal Voice,” because it was said to be situated not too far from the royal palace.
The seated image, 19ft 6ins high, was erected by King Narathihapate (1256-1287). It was made by ex-volcanic rocks.
